The Mayor of Workington’s Charity Fund has received a generous donation of £1000.
The money was raised at Cumbria’s Virtual Festival and Workington Virtual Christmas Festival.
Cumbria’s Virtual Festival is organised by Liam Moorhouse, James Cowan, and Stuart Fleming of Workington based CF Events. The Christmas Festival was organised by CF Events in partnership with Workington Town Council.
Cumbria’s Virtual Festival took place on 21 November with a livestream of music and entertainment.
Acts included popular local entertainers such as Miss Pearl, Just Steve and Stella the Fella. Organiser James Cowan commented;
“When we were asked to put together a Virtual Christmas event for Workington Town Council, we wanted to make it different to our previous “Cumbria Virtual Festivals” and make this one more unique to the “Workington Town Christmas Festival”.
“Our initial plan was to include local businesses and schools in the event, but with the second lockdown coming into force during our planning, it was impossible to do this, so we put together the show that we live streamed on Saturday which seems to have been really well received by everyone that watched.
“The virtual events that we have organised during the two lockdowns are far from our usual fundraising events that we put on regularly, but we have enjoyed being able to keep people entertained during these difficult times, and at the same time, raising much needed funding for local charities.”
Workington Virtual Christmas Festival was on 28 and 29 November to coincide with the switching on of the town centre Christmas lights.
Saturday’s line-up featured local musicians such as Jenny Ball, Liam Moorhouse, Alana Vine, Logan Paul Murphy and the headline act for the festival X-Factor star, Sam Bailey.
The entertainment continued on Sunday with family friendly workshops from Imagination Parties and South Workington Youth Partnership.
Cllr Janet King commented;
“I’m delighted by the generous donation and so grateful to everyone who contributed. The online events organised by CF Events have been so much fun and a great way for the community to gather together safely during lockdown”
The money raised by the Mayor of Workington’s Charity Fund will be divided between two local charities; Young Cumbria and Young Carers (part of West Cumbria Carers).
