Residents across Allerdale are being invited to give their views on dog fouling as part of a public consultation exercise into the introduction of a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO).
Allerdale Borough Council is consulting on the introduction of a PSPO for the prohibition of dog fouling when the current order expires on October 20 this year.
A PSPO allows the Council to issue fixed penalty notices (FPNs) against people who allow their dogs to foul in public without cleaning up afterwards.
This consultation began on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 and will end on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.
The Council is looking for information from respondents about where in the borough they live, whether they think dog fouling has a detrimental effect on their community, if it has a direct impact on their day-to-day life and if they think dog fouling is increasing or decreasing in their area.
It is essential that any order includes exemptions for those who are unable to clean up after their dog so the Council would also like comments with regards to whether there are any instances in which an exemption can be made.
Cllr Tony Markley, Executive member for environmental services, said: “We know how important having clean streets and communities are to residents right across the borough and as a Council we take our role very seriously.
“Dog fouling is a common complaint from residents and our teams work hard to not just to clean it up but to fine those who allow their pets to foul without clearing it away. If you want to help us continue to do this then please provide us with your feedback.”
Residents are reminded to report incidents of dog fouling through the myAllerdale mobile app or through the ‘report it’ section of the Council’s website.
