Cumbria Council Awarded Gold In ERS Awards For Supporting The Armed Forces Community

The Ministry of Defence and North West Reserve and Forces Association (RFCA) have awarded Cumbria County Council with Gold employer status for the Employer Recognition Scheme.

The Scheme recognises organisations who pledge, demonstrate and advocate their support for the Defence community. Since 2016, Cumbria County Council had been a Silver employer.

Through increasing the level of support on offer the county council has demonstrated an exemplar role within Cumbria.

Cumbria County Council provides leadership and advocacy for the armed forces community in the county.

The county council manages the Armed Forces Covenant Partnership and leads on a programme of targeted advocacy with identified employers in the county, which employ at least one reservist but who have not signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

The county council also has in place armed forces-friendly recruitment and selection processes for a range of defence people issues, including veterans, reservists and families.

Cllr Celia Tibble, Cumbria County Council Cabinet Member for Armed Forces, said: “I’m delighted that we have today been awarded Gold employer status.

“This recognises the hard work and support that the county council has put in place for veterans, reservists, families and cadet force adult volunteers.

“The role of the six Armed Forces Champions across the county, with my support as Portfolio Holder, has been instrumental in our relationships with our veteran and reservist community in Cumbria.

“I would also like to thank the North West RFCA for our close working relationship, which we will continue to develop further to lead to better outcomes for the service community in Cumbria”.
