National sports may be back but now it’s the time for local cricket to resume with a shortened season as lockdown measures are eased.
Cumbria Cricket has released the fixtures for the season with divisions being split in two and welcome Barrow and Penrith 1st teams to the competition due to travel restrictions.
The usual 40 over format has been replaced with the 20 over version of the game as a way of reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19.
While local team won’t have to bubble like the England national team has, Jofra Archer was dropped from the Second Test against the West Indies for a breach of bio secure protocol, they will have to implement other procedures.
Cleator Cricket Club showed the changes they have made to the club house with a one-way system and no seating or standing inside.
The opening weekend Saturday, July 25, will have Carlisle 1st home to Wigton 1st while Keswick 1st will welcome Penrith 1st in the Premier Division North East.
The Premier Division North West has former National Village Champions Cleator will hosting Cockermouth 1st with Whitehaven 1st visiting Workington 1st.
Barrow 1st will play Lindal Moor 1st, Haverigg 1st host Millom 1st
Divison One South will start with Hawcoat Park 1st trip to Kirkby-in-Furness 1st, Lindal Moor 2nd will face Vickerstown 1st while Furness 2nd travel to Ulverston 1st.
Egremont 1st will open the season away to Cockermouth 2nd, Seascale 1st will travel to Whitehaven 2nds in Division One West.
While in Division Two South Dalton 2nd will face Ulverston 2nd.
Egremont 2nd host Cleator 2nd with Haverigg 2nd travelling to Millom 2nd.
All games are weather dependent with 12.30pm or 1pm start times.
