New cross-platform game is being developed in partnership with Tencent Games.
Today Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, has unveiled Pokémon UNITE, a new game for the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
Tsunekazu Ishihara said: “The development concept behind Pokémon UNITE was to create a cooperative Pokémon game that anyone could pick up and enjoy immediately but also has a lot of depth to be played over and over again.
“Tencent Games and Timi Studios specialise in team based battle games and we have fused that with Pokémon to create an all new experience in Pokémon UNITE.”
Pokémon UNITE is being developed in partnership with Tencent Games’ TiMi Studios.
Pokémon UNITE is the first strategic Pokémon team battle game where players face off against each other in five-on-five team battles, during these battles, players will cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon.
This means we will see the most Pokémon in battle of any of the other games as not only will there be the ten players but also wild Pokémon as well.
Players will need to defeat their opponents’ Pokémon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.
Steven Ma Senior Vice President of Tencent said: “As a Pokémon fan myself I am really happy to be able to announce this project.
“The unite in Pokémon UNITE represents the game play concept of players coming together with a shared goal.
“Through our shared pursuit of innovative game play and quality, Tencent and The Pokémon Company have united with the goal of creating a new game that can be enjoyed by all.
“At Tencent games we are committed to our search for undiscovered potential in game development and this also holds true in our partnership with The Pokémon Company.
“This is why we have assigned TiMi Studios, a team with 11 years of game development experience that has worked on many hit titles to this project.
“I am confident that this colaboration between TiMi Studios and The Pokémon Company is sure to spark new creativity and bring about all new game play experiences that will surprise and delight all players.”
Pokémon UNITE will be free-to-start on Nintendo Switch and mobile phones.
