Fire crews from around the county were called in for a building fire at Blackford.
On March 19, at 4:55am (16:55) Longtown and Carlisle West Fire Station were mobilised to reports of a building fire at Blackford.

Arriving approximately 9 minutes from first call, Longtown were confronted with a building which was well alight.
The single resident was out on arrival and was treated for smoke inhalation by the fire service and North West Ambulance Service.
Initial fire firefighting actions were undertaken to try and prevent additional fire spread, including to an attached dwelling.

Additional resources were requested from Brampton Fire Station, Carlisle East Fire Station, Penrith Fire Station with the water bowser from Maryport and the turntable ladder and support appliance from Barrow.
Crews were in attendance until approximately 10:00pm by which time the fire had been extinguished with serious damage limited to one property only.
