Police name Cockermouth woman who died in crash as family pay tribute

The family of a woman who died following a crash involving a pedestrian and a car in Cockermouth have paid tribute to ‘much loved’ family member.

A pedestrian died at the scene of a crash involving a white Volvo, on Lamplugh Road on Saturday, March 14.

The police have now confirmed the woman is Catherine Sams, 74, from Cockermouth.

In a tribute, her family said: “Mum was a hugely important and much-loved member of our family.

“We are all struggling to process such a sudden and traumatic loss. She will be sorely missed by friends and family alike, we are heartbroken.

“We are keen to request that our privacy is respected while we try to navigate this tragic situation.”

Police have appealed for anyone with information or any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “Cumbria Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or dashcam from anyone who travelled on Lamplugh Road at around 9pm and witnessed the lead up to the collision, the collision or the collision immediately after.
