A man has died after a car left the road and hit a tree on the A591.

Early in the afternoon of Thursday, March 12, police responded reports of a single-car crash south of Kendal.

The incident took place on the A591 and involved a Mercedes car.

Police believe the crash occurred when a car left the road and hit a tree.

The driver of the Mercedes has died, police confirmed.

Emergency services remain at the scene and the road remains closed northbound between Brettagh Holt and Prizet.

Police have asked that people avoid the area.

An appeal has been launched for anyone with any information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: Anyone who witnessed the collision, the moments leading up to it or who has any other information which may assist with the investigation is asked to contact police.
