Penrith and Shap Fire stations called to large and visible fire

Penrith and Shap fire stations were called out to a large and visible building fire.

The call came in on Saturday, January 24, that a large fire that the Fire Service reported was clearly visible on route and an early make up for additional resources was made due to local knowledge and potential difficulties getting water to the scene.

This was then scaled up further due to 999 footage received by fire control.

On arrival crews were met by a fire contained to the building involving timber and the building walls itself made of railway sleepers.

A strong wind as well as fuelling the fire also assisted in blowing the fire away from a stack of straw contained within the building.

Water from a near by stream was enough to allow the crews to scale back resources and deal with the fire swiftly.
