RNLI called out as person dies off the coast of Whitehaven

A man has died after emergency services were alerted of someone in the water.

Workington RNLI was called out at 1.48pm on Thursday, December 18, to reports a person in the water off the coast of Whitehaven.

Volunteers launched both boats, the all-weather lifeboat Dorothy May White and inshore lifeboat James R Allan.

The man was by West Pier and the crew of the ILB recovered them and commenced CPR.

However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for Workington RNLI said: “Our thoughts are with the casualty’s family and friends.”
