A man from Scotland has been jailed for eight years after he was stopped by officers in November, who discovered millions of pounds of cocaine in his vehicle.

Scott Tobin, aged 33, of Holmelea Court, Glasgow was driving near the Penrith area on Wednesday, November 5, when he was stopped by officers.

Tobin was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on Wednesday, December 17, after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.

When officers searched his vehicle in November, within the boot, they located a cardboard box which contained 30 rectangular blocks, now identified as cocaine.

Tobin was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

The drugs had a potential street value of approximately £2,400,000.

A spokesperson from Westmorland and Furness’s Community and Serious Organised Crime (CSOC) Unit said: “The actions of the officers who stopped Tobin’s vehicle that day have ensured millions-of-pounds-worth of drugs never make it onto the streets.

“I hope this seizure and sentencing demonstrate our firm commitment to tackling drug-related crime.

“Drug use and drug dealing can have serious consequences for individuals, their loved ones, and the wider community.

“By intercepting over £2 million worth of drugs, we’ve taken a significant step in reducing the potential for drug-related harm and crime.”
