Sherlock Holmes on the case as Muncaster Castle has a miniature werewolves breakout

Sherlock Holmes has taken break from preparing for The Curious Case of the Girt Dog to help Muncaster Castle hunt down a miniature werewolf breakout.

With rehearsals well underway for Sherlock Holmes and The Curious Case of the Girt Dog, 12 mischievous miniature werewolves have escaped from Muncaster Castle, and the world’s greatest detective has been summoned to retrieve them before the Halloween festivities begin.

Sherlock Holmes has launched a countywide investigation and is calling on the public to assist.

“We have good reason to believe the werewolves are hiding in plain sight across Cumbria,” said Mr Holmes.

“I have a few suspicions about where they might be headed, and several Cumbrian businesses are already keeping an eye out.”

His case notes and findings will be published on the Muncaster Castle website from 9am on Saturday, October 11, 2025 to help fellow detectives join the hunt.

“We’d only just inducted them into the team,” said Peter Frost-Pennington of Muncaster Castle.

“They were meant to be in training for their festival duties, but I had a sneaking suspicion they might try something like this.

“I can’t blame them really, they’re just trying to spread the word about Halloween at Muncaster as far and wide as they can.”

Those who successfully track down one of the twelve rogue werewolves will be rewarded with 2x adult & 2x child tickets to the Sherlock Holmes & The Curious Case of the Girt Dog theatrical show, part of Muncaster Castle’s unmissable Halloween Festival running this October.

This is the ultimate ticket and also includes entry to all the festival attractions on the winner’s chosen date.

Among those assisting in the search are Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, Alhambra Cinema Keswick, Carlisle Library, Grasmere Gingerbread, Windermere Lake Cruises, The Dock Museum Barrow, Lake District Coast Aquarium, The New Bookshop Cockermouth, The Beacon Museum, Booths in Kendal and Ulverston Town Council with all on high alert as the escapees roam the region.

The Wolf Hunt launches Saturday, October 11, and will run until all 12 mini-Muncaster werewolves are found.
