The magic of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup was on full display in the third qualifying round, with goals galore, history-making moments, and several dramatic upsets as clubs across the country battled for a place in the First Round Proper.
Penrith AFC Ladies’ spirited run in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup continued on Sunday, October 5, as they won 3–1 against Blackpool FC Ladies in the third qualifying round at Frenchfield Park.
After sweeping aside lower-league opposition in the earlier stages, Penrith went into the tie full of confidence and showed their quality to progress to the First Round Proper.
The visitors started brightly and took the lead midway through the first half, punishing Penrith after a defensive mix-up.
The Cumbrian side battled back with determination and levelled through English before taking the lead with Harkness-Grant.
In the second half Penrith kept the game tight and sealed victory with a powerful strike from Forster to make it 3-1 to the home side.
The win takes Penrith AFC into the First Round of the competition where they will face Altrincham FC Women on Sunday, October 26, at Frenchfield Stadium.
One of the day’s standout performances came from Peterborough United, who overturned an early deficit to defeat Notts County 5–1.
After Laura Vine had given County a shock lead, Niamh Reynolds levelled from the penalty spot before Kira Rai stole the headlines, netting a remarkable five-minute hat-trick early in the second half to swing the tie decisively in Posh’s favour.
A deflected effort from Jess Rousseau completed a memorable afternoon for the hosts.
There were celebrations of a different kind for Altrincham Town, who edged out Stockton Town 1–0 to reach the First Round Proper for the first time in the club’s history.
A single goal was also enough for Cheadle Town Stingers, as Jess Lightfoot’s 20-yard strike sealed a hard-fought win over Chorley.
The drama of the cup was equally alive in Manchester, where Mancunian Unity caused one of the upsets of the round by knocking out higher-tier Barnsley in a 3–0 penalty shootout following a tense draw.
Meanwhile, Manchester Laces edged a seven-goal thriller, defeating Ossett United 4–3 after extra time.
Elsewhere, the goals flowed freely.
AFC Portchester recorded the biggest scoreline of the round with a stunning 19–0 demolition of Weymouth, while Blackburn Rovers ran out 11–2 winners over Stocksbridge Park Steels. Leafield Athletic also hit double figures in an 11–0 win against Spalding United, and London Bees produced a 10–1 victory over Colchester, with Millie Isherwood scoring four times.
Chester-le-Street Town matched those numbers with an 11–0 rout of Lower Hopton.
Among the more routine results, several higher-ranked clubs safely navigated their way through to the next round. Luton Town impressed in a 5–1 win over MK Dons, Sutton Coldfield Town overcame Doncaster Rovers Belles by the same scoreline, and Fulham eased past Moneyfields 4–0.
