Cleator Moor Town Deal: Activity Centre transformation well underway

The transformation of Cleator Moor Activity Centre is well underway as part of the Healthy Town part of the Cleator Moor Town Deal.

The multi-million pound refurbishment of the former indoor bowling green has progressed since the closure of the building in early 2025.

The inside transformation is well underway with the partition works in the Cumberland Occupational and Social Centre (COSC) area are now complete, first fix Mechanical and Electrical works are continuing, and all walls, except reception, have been freshly skimmed.

Tree and bush clearance along the COSC garden boundary has also been completed, opening up the space for the next stages of landscaping and development.

The new extension that will be the new leisure centre are taking shape too, with partition works and internal blockwork now started in the Fitness Gym and Disabled Changing Room.

The floor screeding has been finished, while plastering and cable tray installations are ongoing in the central corridor.

The new parapet and coping work is progressing, external cladding and trims are being installed, and render around the new windows has been placed.

The Activity Centre is part of the Health Town and Connected Town sections of the Cleator Moor Town Deal and with each milestone another step towards a healthier, more connected Cleator Moor is achieved.

The Healthy Town Deal project is funded by UK Government and is being delivered thanks to support from our funding partners Copeland Community Fund and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
