Adobe Women’s FA Cup: Penrith AFC book their place in the next round

Cumbrian side Penrith AFC Ladies booked their place in the next stage of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a dominant 5–0 victory away to local rivals Carlisle United.

Played on Sunday, September 28, Penrith produced a composed and clinical performance, with Mallinson bagging four goals in first half and Mason adding a fifth in the second to continuing their free-scoring form after a 15–0 triumph over Boro Rangers earlier in the competition.

The visitors controlled proceedings at Creighton Rugby Ground, cutting through the Carlisle defence with pace and precision to seal a comprehensive win and extend their impressive cup run.

Across the country, the second qualifying round delivered an avalanche of goals and drama.

In Yorkshire, Leeds Modernians edged Grimsby Town 6–5 in one of the most thrilling encounters of the round, recovering from 3–0 down to claim victory. Brunsmeer Athletic also came through a 10-goal battle, beating Rotherham United 6–4 in Sheffield.

Wycombe Wanderers turned on the style with a 10–1 demolition of Wallingford & Crowmarsh, led by a five-goal haul from Kayla Potter, while Athletico London went one better, hammering Southend 12–1 to underline their attacking power.

In the North East, South Shields staged a remarkable comeback from 3–0 down to draw 3–3 with Alnwick Town, before holding their nerve to win 4-3 on penalties.

Meanwhile, Bolton Wanderers impressed with a 5–0 victory over Chester, Abbie Brown netting twice as the Trotters cruised through.

The competition now moves into the Third Qualifying Round, where several higher-tier sides will enter the fray.

For Penrith, the win at Carlisle sets up a tie with Blackpool Ladies on Sunday, October 3.

In the North East, Norton & Stockton Ancients take on Leeds United Women in one of the round’s most eye-catching ties, while Darwen host Leeds Modernians, fresh from their dramatic 6–5 win over Grimsby Town.

Bolton Wanderers Women face a tricky away trip to Gateshead Rutherford AFC who had a walkover in the previous round, while AFC Fylde meet Wirral Phoenix in a Lancashire derby that could go either way.

Elsewhere, Chorley host Cheadle Town Stingers, Bradford City meet the ambitious i2i International Soccer Academy, and Huddersfield Town Women take on Spennymoor Town Ladies in another all-northern clash.
