Penrith AFC Ladies announce return of former manager for 2025/26 season

Penrith AFC Ladies has confirmed that Nick Wharton has agreed to work with the Ladies First Team until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Nick previously worked with the Ladies First Team from 2008-2012 and returns with a wealth of experience.

He has began working with the first team ahead of his first game against Carlisle United Ladies in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, September 28.

Interim coach and captain Kim McCormick has expressed her excitement at Nick’s return saying: “I’m absolutely over the moon to have Nick back on board.

“During his previous spell, it was clear he had a strong philosophy and playing style that really suited the team, and I know our current squad will thrive under his guidance.

“The whole group is excited and motivated for the challenges ahead, and we’re looking forward to working with him again.”

A spokesperson for the club said: “We believe this is a fantastic step forward, not just for the First Team, but also for the Pathway Squad and for Penrith Ladies & Girls as a whole.

“Nick will bring an array of qualities, tactical knowledge, leadership, organisation, and a clear identity in how we play.

“Just as importantly, he brings energy, professionalism, and a genuine passion for helping players grow and succeed.

“His return represents a real boost for everyone connected to Penrith AFC Ladies.

“The club would also like to place on record a huge thank you to Georgia Smethurst, who has supported Kim McCormick during her time leading the side.

“Her hard work and dedication have been invaluable, and we are grateful for her continued commitment to the team.”

Penrith AFC Ladies have been performing well in the North West Women’s Regional League Division One North winning three of their first six game to sit four.
