Workington Town Women lost a six goal thriller as the North West Women’s Regional League played out a reduced fixture list.
With the Adobe Women’s FA Cup taking place on Sunday, September 7, a lot of teams were involved.
Premier Division
Unbeaten AFC Fylde Women enjoyed one of the standout results of the day, running out 3–0 winners against Darwen FC.
Their attacking display underlined their intent to challenge at the top this season.
There was drama at Mancunian Unity, where the hosts slipped to a 2–1 defeat against Bolton Wanderers Women. The Trotters picked up their first away points of the campaign in a well-contested match.
Meanwhile, Tranmere Rovers Women produced a dominant performance, sweeping aside bottom of the table Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies with a commanding 5–0 victory at home, the biggest winning margin of the weekend.
At Broadhurst Park, FC United of Manchester Women edged Poulton Vics Ladies by a single goal, earning a hard-fought 1–0 win in another closely contested encounter.
Bury FC Women picked up their third win of the season with a narrow 1–0 win over Curzon Ashton.
Crewe Alexandra Women impressed on home soil, securing a solid 2–0 victory against West Didsbury and Chorlton, showing their attacking quality while keeping things tight at the back.
Division One North
There were goals aplenty in Division One North reduce fixtures on Sunday 7 as the early season contests continued to take shape.
Chorley Women Development claimed an impressive home win, running out 4–1 victors against Fleetwood Town Wrens Reserves.
The hosts made a fast start, racing into a 3–0 half-time lead before adding another after the break to secure the points.
In Cumbria, Workington Town Women battled hard but fell to a 4–2 defeat against top of the table Bolton Wanderers Girls and Ladies.
Despite Hayley Bracken and Cassie Donald scoring, Workington were undone by Bolton’s clinical finishing, which ensured the away side took maximum points back to Lancashire.
