M6: Penrith and Shap fire station called to vehicle fire on the motorway

Penrith and Shap fire and rescue were called out to a vehicle fire that closed the M6 motorway.

On Thursday, September 4, two appliances from Penrith and one appliance from Shap were called to a vehicle fire on the southbound M6 between junctions 40 and 39.

The vehicle was well alight on arrival and a full motorway closure was necessary due to the intensity of the fire and safety of the firefighters.

The fire was extinguished using four Breathing Apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and a compressed air foam system.

A spokesperson for Penrith Fire and Rescue said: “If you experience a vehicle fire make sure you pull over at a safe place, keep your distance behind safety barriers where possible and call the emergency services.”
