Wearside League: Windscale AFC rack up five goal win on the road

The Wearside League roared back into action over the final weekend of August, with fixtures serving up goals, shocks and plenty of drama.

With two divisions in action on Saturday, August 30, producing one of the most memorable scorelines of the season so far.

Premier Division

The headline result came at Annfield Plain, where Gateshead Leam Rangers produced a ruthless display, dismantling the hosts 13–0 in a performance that will surely echo across the league.

It was a clinical exhibition of attacking football and a clear statement of intent from a side eyeing silverware.

Elsewhere, Windscale AFC were equally dominant, running out 5–0 winners at Shotton Colliery, with Rob Davidson, Ray Sempill, Andrew Begbie, Travis Fyfe and Ben Mahaffy on target.

While Seaton Carew and Farringdon Detached played out a cagey 1–1 draw.

Brandon United and Hartlepool Pools Youth FC Seniors couldn’t be separated in a goalless stalemate, and Willington AFC battled to a hard-earned 1–1 draw with Easington Lane.

It was a weekend where the contenders began to make themselves known with Gateshead Leam Rangers and Windscale both flexing their muscles in emphatic fashion.

First Division

The First Division also produced its share of excitement, with Ferryhill Athletic delivering a resounding 5–1 win over Durham City.

It was an eye-catching result that keeps Ferryhill firmly in the mix at the sharp end of the table.

Belmont United edged past Coundon & Leeholme with a narrow 2–1 victory, while Coxhoe Athletic survived a late fightback to beat Shildon Railway 3–2.

Darlington Youth U23s also enjoyed a strong afternoon, seeing off Wynyard Village 3–2 in another closely fought contest.

Goals were in no short supply across the division, with Gateshead Leam Rangers Reserves winning 5–3 in an entertaining clash with Darlington Railway Athletic U23s, and Middlestone Moor sharing the spoils in a 2–2 draw against Deerness Valley.
