Thrilling night of action in the North West Women’s Regional League with Workington Town and Penrith AFC involved

The North West Women’s Regional League produced a night of high-scoring drama with standout results across the Premier Division and all three Division One sections.

The busy start to the season continued on Wednesday, 27 August, as team’s played their fourth game of the season.

Premier Division

There was no shortage of goals in the Premier Division as Darwen recorded the biggest win of the night with a dominant 6-0 victory over Fleetwood Wrens 1st, sending a strong message to the rest of the league.

Bolton Wanderers were equally ruthless, sweeping aside Curzon Ashton 8-1 in an emphatic away performance.

Elsewhere, Crewe Alexandra secured a solid 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers, while West Didsbury claimed three points on the road, beating FC United of Manchester 2-0.

Mancunian Unity were also convincing winners, defeating Poulton Vics 4-0.

Division One Central

Goals flowed heavily in Division One Central as well.

Ashton produced the most eye-catching result, crushing Radcliffe 8-0.

Mossley Hill edged a thriller, overcoming Pilkington 5-3, while Atherton beat Wigan Athletic Ladies 3-0.

Salford City Lionesses also enjoyed a fine evening, beating Rochdale 4-1.

Division One North

There were fireworks in Division One North, highlighted by Penrith’s stunning 10-1 demolition of Fleetwood Wrens Reserves.

Penrith led 8-0 by half time as Jodie English scored a hat trick with Poppy Sinden and Abbie Forster adding two each.

Kayleigh Wharton and Kerri Mallinson added to the total with a first club goal for Liv Paice.

Bolton Wanderers Reserves also impressed with a 4-1 victory at Haslingden.

Preston North End picked up a clean sheet, beating Blackpool 3-0, while Workington Town edged a tight contest against Morecambe 4-3 in one of the night’s closest matches.

Nat Broad grabbed an equaliser for Town before Sarah Smith gave the home side the lead and Cassie Donald secured the tie with two goals.

Division One South

It was a night of tight battles in Division One South.

AFC Crewe claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Macclesfield, while Chester and Nantwich played out a goalless draw.

Wirral Phoenix left Liverpool Feds Reserves disappointed after sealing a 3-1 away win, and Runcorn Linnets snatched a valuable 1-0 victory at Warrington Town.
