St Mary’s Hospice is Highly Commended for Dementia Unmuted Festival that ‘empower individuals’ and ‘challenge stigma’

St Mary’s Hospice is proud to announce that its Dementia Unmuted Festival has been awarded a Highly Commended accolade at the Dementia Care Awards 2025, recognising the team’s outstanding contribution to coproduction.

The festival brought together people living with dementia, their families, healthcare professionals, artists, and community partners to share ideas, creativity, and experiences.

The judges praised the team, stating: “The Compassionate Communities team at St Mary’s Hospice exemplifies coproduction, blending clinical and creative expertise to support people with dementia and their families.

“Through partnerships, education and innovation events like Dementia Unmuted, they empower individuals, challenge stigma and promote holistic, meaningful living with dementia. Well done.”

Sophie Murphy-Ayeche, Admiral Dementia Nurse at St Mary’s Hospice, said: “We’re delighted to be recognised at a national level for Dementia Unmuted.

“The festival was a true collaboration, and this award is a reflection of the passion and creativity of everyone involved — from people living with dementia and their carers, to our staff, volunteers, and community partners.”

The Dementia Unmuted Festival highlighted how the arts, storytelling, and community-led innovation can create spaces where people with dementia are heard, valued, and supported to live meaningful lives.

The Hospice hopes to build on the success of the festival, continuing to challenge stigma and create opportunities for coproduction that place people with dementia at the heart of shaping support and services.
