A young mountain biker’s day ended with a suspected broken hip as Penrith Mountain Rescue help with evacuation.
Penrith Mountain Rescue were alerted by the North West Ambulance Service to a 14-year-old mountain biker who had had an accident in Coombs Wood, and sustained a suspected broken hip following a crash.

The Great North Air Ambulance helicopter from Langwathby attended and was first to the incident site.
They were able to quickly get to the casualty, assess the injuries and provide pain relief.
As with similar incidents in this area, Penrith team members deployed to help extract the casualty from the steep woodland.
He was loaded into a vacuum mattress to help immobilise him and was then stretchered back up to the road where he was transferred to an North West Ambulance Service ambulance for onward travel to hospital.
