Busy Sunday as Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue answer four calls

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue were involved in a busy Sunday with four call outs taking the team near 100 rescues.

The first call on Sunday, August, 17, came in at 02:38, when the team were called to an ankle injury in a wooded area close to Ambleside.

The casualty was given pain relief and handed over to North West Ambulance Service for further treatment and transport to hospital.

There was then a break for the Langdale team with the next call coming at 2:50pm (14:50).

They were alerted to an unconscious male with a head injury along the coffin route on the North side of Rydal Water.

The team assembled, assessed the casualty and requested support from NWAS due to the nature of the incident.

While the above incident was ongoing, at 3:45pm (15:45) another unconscious male at the caves, on the South of Rydal Water was phoned in.

Resources were quickly split and more team members requested so both could covered.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service diverted from the rescue to attend this one, assessed the casualty, who was deemed well enough to be discharged from the scene.

They then made their way to incident to the previous rescue.

The fourth and final call of the day brought up the team’s 99th reacue.

At 8:20pm (20:20) Kendal Mountain Search and Rescue Team alerted the team to an incident.

A walker who was struggling, had lost the path on their way back from Scafell Pike to Langdale and was in a craggy area, close to Stake Pass.

The team began the process of guiding him by phone back to the path, where he made his way down to the valley floor in Mickleden.

Due to information they had been given, it was decided that two team members would meet him with a vehicle at the end of the valley to transport him back to his car.
