Cumbria Police has launched an appeal for information after reports of a rape in Whitehaven.
At around 2:32am on Sunday, August 17, police received a report a woman was raped in Whitehaven.
The incident is reported to have occurred at Castle Park.
A cordon was put in place at Castle Park and the public have been asked to avoid the area while police investigate.
Police have launched an appeal for anyone with information or any witnesses to come forward.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “The victim, a female is receiving support from specialist officers and partners.
“Detectives are in the early stages of the investigation and are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 1:25am and 2:30am to contact police.
“There will be a police presence in the area whilst officers conduct their investigations.”
