Wigton and Workington bowling clubs dominated the second day of Cumbria Bowling’s championship at Whitehaven.
Bowlers from around the county were at Whitehaven on Sunday, July 27, to try and claim the title they have been working towards.
Eleven titles were on offer with seven of them giving the holders a place at Bowls Englands national finals at Royal Leamington Spa.

Workington’s V. Cook, C. Bannister, T. Smitham and R. Forster lost 18-21 to Wigton’s J. Bell, M. Haney, P. Peile and N. Bowe in the Women’s Fours as the two clubs would battle it out throughout the day.
Whitehaven’s R. Prince had home support as he faced D. Forster of Workington in the Men’s Singles, sadly for the home crowd he lost 21-10.

In the Men’s Two Woods Workington’s H. Crosby missed out as H. Stewart of Seascale claimed the title with a 14-16 win.
In the Cumbria county title game the Women’s Restricted Singles wen to S. Collins from Maryport with a 21-17 win over L. White of Croft, Cockermouth.
The Men’s Pairs title was heading to Workington but it went with D. Forster and J. Park who beat M. Hodgson and S. Cook 19-10.
Wigton’s K. Baxter, L. Baxter and R. Baxter took the Men’s Triples title with a 22-9 victory over Aspatria’ H. Creighton, J. Wilson and D. Pattinson.

Two singles titles went to Wigton as C. Browbank beat Workington’s T. Smitham 16-21 in the Women’s Singles while M. Haney won 21-4 in the Women’s Junior Singles against A. Benbow of Egremont.

In the final session of the day two Cumbria county titles were offer sadly it was not a happy return to the final after losing in 2024 for Workington’s D. Hodgson and D. Forster as they lost 12-19 to Wigton’s M. Haney and C. Hodgson in the Mixed Pairs.

Workington’s V. Cook, R. Forster, S. Cook and J. Park did add the Mixed Fours to the clubs finals weekend trophy haul with a 26-3 win over Keswick’s Fitz Park quartet of S. Robinson, C. Forsyth, B. Robinson and C. Harding.
