West Cumbria Bowls Leagues: Teams return to action after wet weather cancels games

After the wet weather caused a league wash out both leagues returned to as the semifinals of the Knockout Cup were played.

West Cumbria Fours League

After a wash out the week before three matches were played on Friday, July 11, with Workington A beating Maryport 6-1 as Whitehaven A won 7-0 against Seaton to move into second.

Fitz Park are up to third after a 6-1 over Whitehaven B and Workington B won their first game of the season with a 7-0 over Vulcan Park to move above the Workington side.

Cleator Moor return to league action after missing three weeks as they welcome Whitehaven A on Friday 18.

Fitz Park make the trip to Seaton and Workington A head to Vulcan Park while Whitehaven B face Maryport.

All matches are a 6:30pm (18:30) start.

West Cumbria Mixed Triples League

The semi finalists of the Knockout Cup have been decided as Workington A beat Harris Park A 6-3 while Whitehaven A progressed with a 9-0 win over Whitehaven B and Maryport lost 4-5 to Seaton as Wigton won 8-1 against Seascale.

Workington A face Whitehaven A and Seaton play Wigton with the matches due to be played on Tuesday, July 29, at neutral venues.

Leaders Maryport were on the road on Tuesday, July 4, as they picked up a 4-5 win at Seaton while Whitehaven A beat Harris Park A 7-2.

Whitehaven B were also playing a Cockermouth side as they lost 5-4 to Harris Park B while Egremont won 6-3 against to Croft while Cleator Moor were 5-4 victors over Workington side Vulcan Park.

On Tuesday 15, Maryport face Workington B as Whitehaven A host Vulcan Park and Seascale head to Cleator Moor.

Fifth placed Workington A welcome Croft as Cockermouth side Harris Park B play Seaton as Egremont host Harris Park A and Wigton take on Whitehaven B.

Cumbria’s Alsop team were on the road on Saturday, July 12, as they faced Northumberland at Haltwhistle.

Despite a close 118-104 (16-6) defeat to the Northumberland side Cumbria can still win the competition.

With Yorkshire heading to Silloth on Saturday, July 19, and only 7 points ahead of their hosts it is all to play for.

Lancashire finished their campaign with a 52-91 (3-19) loss to Durham.

Cumbria’s Johns Trophy played their final game of the round-robin phase on July 12, when they traveled to Yorkshire.

In a close game Cumbria lost 123-129 (16-6) to group winners Yorkshire as in the other game Northumberland beat Durham 122-109 (18-4).
