‘Nightmare’ situation as car towing a occupied horse box catches fire

A ‘nightmare’ situation as Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue attended a car catches fire while towing an occupied horse box.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: Officers attended what would be every horse persons nightmare, a vehicle catching fire whilst towing a horse trailer.

“We are more than delighted to say all were ok thanks to the quick thinking of the owners and fast deployment of Cumbria Fire and Rescue.”

Cumbria Police offered this advice if this happens:

  • Phone 999 immediately
  • Remove horses from the vehicle and move it to a place of safety
  • Do not return to the vehicle
  • Stay a safe distance away

The spokesperson added: “The horses coped excellently with the situation probably better than the humans who were going home for a rather large drink.”
