Barrow AFC has announced the signing of Premier League goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom on a two-year deal with the option of a further year, subject to EFL approval.
Winterbottom will officially join The Bluebirds on July 1, following the expiration of his contract with Premier League side Brentford.
Speaking about signing for The Bluebirds, Winterbottom said: “Yeah, I know it was brilliant, they [Barrow] mentioned they watched me a lot last year, and then for Barrow to reach out and be as positive and as keen as they have been was a real plus point for me.”
He added, “I can’t wait to get going now, it’s been a good break, and I feel rested and just ready to get going again.”
Preston-born Winterbottom originally joining Blackburn Rovers as a boy, before heading to Liverpool at the age of 18, where he remained for two and a half years.
During his time in Merseyside, the 23-year-old progressed through the academy ranks, making appearances in the Premier League 2, as well as playing twice in the EFL Trophy and being named in an EFL Cup matchday squad away to Aston Villa.
In January of 2021, he was picked up by Brentford and during his time with the Bees, he became a regular part of the West Londoners’ travelling squad, going up and down the country with Thomas Frank’s side.
During his time at Brentford, he enjoyed spells on loan with Welling United and Fylde, where he played 41 times for the Coasters last season, earning a lot of plaudits for his performances.
