Mark Hughes is ‘thrilled to be staying’ after Carlisle United announce he will lead the side in their National League campaign.

Speaking after extending his stay, Mark said: “I’m thrilled to be staying at the club.

“Since joining back in February, the support I’ve received from the fans has been exceptional – thank you.

“I hope to see more of the same next season as we aim for an immediate return to the EFL.”

Joining the Blues in early February he quickly built a strong relationship with the club’s supporters and united the squad behind-the-scenes.

Reinvigorated the team as it battled in the final games.

Chairman, Tom Piatak added: “We’re pleased to confirm the extension of Mark Hughes as Head Coach of Carlisle United.

“Mark brought the squad together during the closing stretch of the season and gave us a fighting chance.

“His leadership, composure, and connection with the players was clear, and we’re confident in his ability to lead us forward.”

Under Hughes The Cumbrians suffered only one home defeat at Brunton Park and also secured three consecutive victories for the first time in over two years.
