Carlisle United has appointment of Marc Tierney as the club’s new Head of Football Operations.

Tierney, 39, joins Carlisle United from his role as Director of Football at Altrincham.
Chairman Tom Piatak said: “We’re excited to welcome Marc back to Brunton Park in a new capacity as Head of Football Operations.
“He stood out in the recruitment process for his football knowledge, energy, and clarity of vision.
“We’re confident he’s the right person to help drive us forward.
“Marc also brings a deep understanding of the National League player pool and strong relationships across the non-league landscape.
“That insight will be critical as we look to rebound quickly and return to the EFL.
“As part of our ongoing football review, we’ve restructured the former Sporting Director role to sharpen accountability and improve day-to-day coordination across the football department.
“Marc will lead all operational areas including recruitment, analysis, and medical, working closely with the Head Coach and Academy.
“Now that this key appointment is in place, we expect to provide an update on discussions with Mark Hughes in the coming days.”
Former left-back, Tierney had a loan spell at Brunton Park during the 2004/05 season before going on to make over 200 appearances across the EFL with clubs including Shrewsbury Town, Norwich City, and Bolton Wanderers.
His playing career was cut short by an ankle injury, leading to his retirement in 2015 at the age of 29.
Following his retirement, Tierney worked as an independent scouting and recruitment consultant, supporting several clubs across the football pyramid in player identification, recruitment strategy, and the development of scouting networks.
