Workington Town Council by-election won by former Labour councillor

The by-election for the Workington Town Council seat of Harrington has been won by a former Labour councillor.

Returning to town council politics former Labour councillor William James Miskelly know as Billy was announced the winner of the by-election for the Conservative Party on Thursday, February 27.

Newly elected councillor Miskelly said: “May I thank from the bottom of my heart the people of Harrington who trusted me with their vote in the Harrington by-election today I will not let you down can I promise those who didn’t that I will work to prove that I am a Councillor to all my constituents not just those who supported my Party and a I.

“If you need me contact me no issue that is problematic to you is too large or too small for me to take up on your behalf.

“I promise nothing to you except hard graft, 100 percent effort, no false promises but above all to be there for you.

“Tomorrow I begin in my efforts to bring to life my election pledges which I have just reconfirmed.

“So once again thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you, I will not waste that opportunity.”

    Turnout was 16.91 percent.

    Antony David McGuckin (Labour Party) secured 146 votes with Billy Miskelly (The Conservative Party Candidate) taking 273 votes to be elected). There were two rejected ballot papers.
