The High Sheriff of Cumbria visits St Mary’s Hospice

St Mary’s Hospice was thrilled to welcome High Sheriff of Cumbria for a tour of the hospice.

The High Sheriff of Cumbria, Christopher Holmes and his wife Sue along with three trustees from Cumbria Community Foundation were welcomed by St Mary’s Hospice CEO Catherine Burn BEM and Philanthropic Giving Manager Ali Alger, who took them around the building.

“We are deeply grateful for the High Sheriff’s visit and for the ongoing support of Cumbria Community Foundation,” said Catherine Burn BEM.

“Visits like these allow us to showcase the incredible work our team does every day, and we hope they help raise awareness of the importance of hospice care within our community.”

The tour provided an excellent opportunity to thank Cumbria Community Foundation for their support and demonstrate the difference they have helped us to local families.

The guests were given the opportunity to view firsthand the newly renovated hospice facilities enhancing comfort and care for the patients and their families, meet with staff and volunteers and chat to our bereavement gardening group.

They were briefed on the range of specialist services offered by the hospice, such as inpatient and community care, bereavement, and wellbeing programmes.

The High Sheriff and his visitors had the opportunity to speak with staff, volunteers, and service users too, hearing more about the compassionate work of providing palliative and end-of-life care.

At the end of the tour, the High Sheriff expressed his gratitude to staff for the vital work they do.

He witnessed the huge contribution St Mary’s Hospice makes to society in delivering the best care and support to people who are experiencing challenging situations.
