St Mary’s Hospice has announce the communities of Grange-Over-Sands, Cartmel, and Allithwaite have raised an astounding £15,400 to pay for a brand-new cuddle bed in Sue Wymer’s memory.
Sue Wymer was a local pillar, sharing her time and affection with local children, churches, and charities.
In her final days at St Mary’s Hospice, she had the immense comfort of the hospice’s one cuddle bed.

Cuddle beds are intended to expand, allowing loved ones to share intimacy and reassurance in the darkest hours.
Sue made a heartfelt wish for a second cuddle bed at the hospice, so that other families could have the same sense of warmth and closeness when they needed it most.
The unprecedented generosity of the local community means Sue’s wish has now been granted thanks to a campaign spearheaded by Sue’s good friends Rachel Stavert and Nicole Spibey.
“We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of our community,” said Annabelle Holloway, Corporate Partnership Manager at St Mary’s Hospice.
“Sue Wymer’s legacy has given us something just wonderful, and this new cuddle bed will provide comfort to families at some of their darkest times.
“This legacy of love will be making a difference for many years to come.”
Sue’s friends, local schools, and many members of the community came together in a strong display of solidarity and compassion to drive the fundraising campaign.
Their appeal is a reflection of the strength and generosity of the community, showing that even in bereavement, kindness and love prevail.
Students from Allithwaite, Cartmel, Grange-Over-Sands, and local schools were presented with the special opportunity to tour St Mary’s Hospice to see the newly purchased cuddle bed.
As the cuddle bed rolls into place at St Mary’s Hospice, it will serves as a reminder of Sue Wymer and the generosity of the Grange-Over-Sands, Cartmel, and Allithwaite communities.
