Cumbria Coastguard Called Out After Reports Of A ‘Potential Explosive Device’ Found

Furness Coastguard were called out after reports a “potential explosive device” was found on the Cumbrian coast.

The coastguard team were called out to a beach by Roa Island Lifeboat on Thursday, February 13.

A person walking on the beach reported finding a potential explosive device.

The team arrived, looked at the pictures provided and e-mailed them to the Holyhead control room and the Army EOD.

The EOD then advised that they wanted to take a look and travelled to Barrow from Catterick Garrison, Furness Coastguard said.

Army EOD arrived on scene and advised the coastguard team the object was a “1.3kg German Incendiary device”.

The item was then moved to a safer location where it was destroyed.

In a statement Furness Coastguard thanked all those involved that helped with the incident.
