Fatal 70 Meter Fall In Lake District Tragic First 2025 Call For Keswick Mountian Rescue

Keswick Mountain Rescue received their first call out of 2025 and it ended in tragedy after a man died after a 70 meter fall.

The first call-out for the charity occurred on January 2, after a man died in a 70 metre fall from Sharp Edge.

A Keswick team member who was already on Blencathra made his way to the scene above Scales Tarn, along with the crew of the Great North Air Ambulance’s Helimed 58, who landed nearby.

The man’s body was carried to Helimed 58 who then airlifted the man to the Keswick Mountain Rescue Base.

A spokesperson for the Mountain Rescue said: “Many thanks to H58, the Coastguard, and to the hill-goers who went to assist.Our thoughts and condolences go to the man’s family and friends.”

2024 was record year for Keswick with 146 call-outs and 34 alerts, incidents that were managed without a team deployment, and they were all handled by volunteers that rely on donations.
