St Bees Soap Box Derby: West Cumbrian Charity Event Returns For Second Running

By Robert Haile

After a successful return last year St Bees will once again rattle and roll to the sound of Soap Box Racers.

The fundraising seven stop race is once again sponsored by C. Sharpe Roofing with trophies being handed out to the winners.

Taking place on December 28, the event is raising funds for three causes with connections to the village, the St Bees RNLI, Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Amelia McAvoy.

There will also be an official after party at the Queens Hotel.

The race starts at the top of the Main Street running to the Queens Hotel, and last year saw plenty of recognisable characters such as Scooby Doo, Snow White, Mario and a group of farm animals along with winners ‘Team 118’.

In 2023 the event raised £1200 with the money being split between the St Bees RNLI, Jude Jackson and Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
