Weather warnings in place for Storm Bert have caused the cancellation of the Egremont Winter Wonderland event.
The event that included the switching on of the town’s Christmas Lights and a fireworks display was due to take place on Sunday, November 24 but due to the high winds they have been unable to set up the event.
Taking to social media a spokesperson for the event said: “We are now having to write a post we did not want to, but due to the weather conditions we are having to CANCEL the Egremont Winter Wonderland that was planned for tomorrow.
“The predicted high winds means the gazebos, stage, etc…. Cannot be installed, also some acts are unable to actually get here due to bad weather where they are coming from.
“No one can be more gutted than us. Please don’t be critical this decision has not been taken lightly, but we can’t control the weather.”
While this year’s Winter Wonderland might have fallen foul of the wintery weather there is some good news.
“On the positive side Father Christmas has told us he still wants to come to Egremont so once we know the dates and times we will let you know.
“And we will be back next year, we will try again to hold the Main Street event in 2025 bigger and better.”
