An exciting new book club is being launched, specifically to help business and charity leaders looking to change, expand and grow.
Ben Hickman is launching Reflective Rebels, an alternative business book club designed to challenge your way of thinking, and help share different perspectives.

The 38-year-old is a business coach, based in The Guild in Carlisle, but prides himself on coming up with alternative ways to bring people together.
“I’m a coach and I work mainly one-to-one with people at the moment,” Ben explained. “A lot of what I do is about the person, rather than the business, so if the person is calm and confident, success in the business naturally follows.
“I’ve been looking for new ways to bring people together by trying to do things a bit differently. I’ve experimented with pottery, walks and even ghyll scrambling.
“The idea behind the book club is to tap into something that’s a big part of my life – I love books. A good book can genuinely be life-changing, or make you think and look at life differently.”
Reflective Rebels will meet at Kirklinton Hall café once a month for up to two-and-a-half hours to discuss that month’s book and share ideas, opinions and debate.
Ben said: “It won’t be your usual kind of business book; it’s about thinking differently.
“It’s aimed at people who are running businesses or in leadership positions. In a small, intimate group, we spark conversations that challenge traditional thinking and help you discover new insights about yourself and your leadership.”
Ben is keen to support local businesses, and is delighted that Bookends have agreed to offer a 20 percent discount to the book club.
“I want this book club to give you clarity, calm and confidence; you’re going to get some really different perspectives, and some really different ways to think about things,” he continued.
“I think you will get a little bit more joy in your life.”
Themes each month will include mindfulness and presence; vulnerability and leadership; happiness and joy; and integrating work and life.
The goal is to encourage attendees to think differently, take action, and lead with greater awareness.
The first book to be discussed will be The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, a transformative book on mindfulness and presence, and after three books members will be able to suggest future reads.
