Millom Town Deal Submit Planning Application For Leisure Facility

Millom Town Deal have submitted a planning application for a new activity and leisure facility.

The planning application has been submitted for a new activity and leisure facility at Millom School.

This is part of the Activating Community Health project, which is one of four projects that make up the Millom Town Deal which secured £20.6m from the UK Government’s Town’s Fund alongside a further £8.7m in match funding.

David Savage, the Chair of Millom Town Deal Board, said:“This I am sure is the news the Community has been patiently waiting to hear as we now seek to secure the next big milestone for the Leisure Complex, with the submission of the planning application.

“Subject to planning approval, we can look forward to a ‘shovel in the ground’ in early 2025. This long-awaited news will build confidence that the Leisure Complex is actively moving forward and will significantly contribute to this town’s offer as an attractive place to live, work and visit.”

The project will offer a swimming pool, sports hall and fitness studios within the setting of a community and leisure hub.

It aims to improve levels of community health and well-being by providing residents with a modern, multi-purpose and fully inclusive facility.

In addition, it would attract visitors to the town which will also support the long-term financial sustainability of this new leisure facility alongside increased footfall and a boost to overall levels of spending within local businesses.

A local contractor, Thomas Armstrong Group, has been appointed to undertake the design and build.

The company are based in the Cumberland area and will support the Millom Town Deal Board and Cumberland Council to deliver the scheme.

Work continues on other parts of the Town Deal projects and momentum continues to build across this transformational programme.
