Cumberland Council have issued an emergency road closure on West Road, Thirlmere.
Taking to social media on Monday, October 21, to share the closure the Council said: “Due to the impact of StormAshley we have implemented an emergency closure on West Road, Thirlmere, between Launchy Gill and Rough Crag, following a significant rockfall earlier today.

“The closure is in place to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians. The situation is being assessed, and the road will remain closed until further notice.
“We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve the situation and will provide updates as soon as possible.”
They have asked anyone travelling in the area to try and avoid the area and follow the diversion route provided along the A591 if travel is necessary.
