Rugby Union: Defeat For Cumbrian Sides In Regional Leagues

There wasn’t much to cheer about for Cumbria’s sides in the Regional leagues as most of them tasted defeat.

Rossendale moved a point clear at the top of the Regional 1 North West as they made it six wins from six on on Saturday, October 19, with a 51-22 victory over Penrith.

Also undefeated Anselmians beat Stockport 26-14 with Blackburn moving up to third with a 38-24 win over Leek as Manchester beat Kendal 7-33 and Wirral complete the top five after a 24-7 win at home to Newport (Salop).

Bottom side Birkenhead Park are still looking for their first win after a 50-7 defeat at Stoke on Trent, who picked up their first win of the season with the victory.

Rossendale will want to finish the month top on Saturday, October 26, with victory at Newport (Salop) while Anselmians head to Leek.

Blackburn travel to Penrith as Manchester play Wirral while Stockport welcome Stoke on Trent and Kendal head to Birkenhead Park.

The lead of Regional 2 North has changed hands as West Hartlepool moved into top spot with a 50-17 win over Keswick as Middlesbrough dropped to second on points difference after a 39-8 win over Guisborough on October 19.

In the only other move in the table Morpeth dropped to fourth with a 18-25 win at Consett as Northern beat Kirkby Lonsdale 69-14 to move into third.

In the all Cumbrian tie Carlisle won 31-13 at home to Upper Eden and Aspatria lost 24-13 at Durham City.

The top two are on the road on October 26 as West Hartlepool head to Morpeth and Middlesbrough travel to Upper Eden.

Third placed Northern make the trip to Guisborough while Keswick host Durham City as Carlisle make the short trip to Aspatria and Kirkby Lonsdale face Consett.

In the Regional 2 North West leaders Firwood Waterloo beat Sandbach 27-15 with Bowden recording a 50-27 win over Northwich as Burnage lost 28-17 to Crewe & Nantwich on October 19.

Widnes held onto fifth despite losing 15-17 to Vale of Lune who join them on the same points while Altrincham Kersal were beaten 37-14 by Douglas (I.O.M) and Winnington Park moved off the bottom with a 29-34 win at Eccles.

Firwood Waterloo head to Altrincham Kersal on October 26 as Bowden travel to Winnington Park as the two teams battle it out for top spot.

Third placed Sandbach host Widnes as Burnage take on Douglas (I.O.M) while Crewe & Nantwich head to Northwich and Vale of Lune play Eccles.

Three teams continued their unbeaten start to the Cumbria League on October 19 with leaders Wigton leaving Workington with a 12-88 win as Penrith 2nd kept pace with 5-59 victory at Ambleside while Egremont sit a point behind in third with a 26-69 win at Creighton.

Cockermouth lost 41-33 at Millom to drop to fifth as St Benedicts moved into fourth with a 0-99 victory at Aspatria 2nd while Keswick 2nd beat Hawcoat Park 26-14 and Windermere recorded their first win of the season with a 37-17 victory over Whitehaven.

In the final game of October on Saturday 26, Wigton host Creighton while Penrith 2nd welcome Millom and Egremont play Aspatria 2nd with all three looking to end the month on top.

St Benedicts take on Keswick 2nd with Cockermouth facing Workington while Windermere travel to Hawcoat Park and Ambleside make the trip to Whitehaven.
