Millom Town Deal Events To Be Held To Discuss All Four Projects

Four drop in events are to be held across the Millom and Haverigg area for residents and businesses who want to know more about the Millom Town Deal.

The events will be held in different venues and times across Millom and Haverigg in the next few months.

Iron Line Project – Millom Town Deal

David Savage, the Chair of Millom Town Deal Board, said: “Following our events in September, we’ve lined up more pop-up events, taking on board feedback from residents.

“These pop up events are hosted by Town Deal Board Members and are focussed on answering residents questions.

“The events will be held at different venues, dates and times over next few months to give everyone an opportunity to come along and be in the know.

“We look forward to meeting you.”

Upcoming events will be held on:

  • Monday, October 14, 6.30pm – 8.30pm at Guide Hall, Back St George’s Road, Millom LA18 4DD
  • Wednesday, October 23, 10am – 12pm at Haverigg Cricket Club, Haverigg, LA18 4EW
  • Friday, November 8, 10am – 12pm at Haverigg Institute, St Luke’s Institute, Glencoe Close, Haverigg, Millom LA18 4PS
  • Tuesday, November 26, 6pm – 8pm at Millom Baptist Hall, 5 Crown Street, Millom LA18 4AG

At the events residents will get to hear the latest information on the Millom Town Deal as well as meeting Town Deal Board Members.

They can ask questions or get more information on each of the Town Deal projects:

  • Iron Line
  • Activating Community Health
  • Reactivating Heritage Buildings
  • Connected Millom and Haverigg

The Iron Line Project will see the coastal area around RSPB Hodbarrow improved with a café/bar, retail space and multi-use events room alongside adjacent parking for around 80 vehicles along with up to 7km of walking and cycling routes enhanced.

Activating Community Health pool – Millom Town Deal

Activating Community Health is set to provide a multi-purpose community and leisure hub with a swimming pool and 3G pitch with Millom School site identified as the location.

Part of the Reactivating Heritage Buildings has seen the creation of an Arts and Enterprise Centre within the former NatWest bank building, which will include a cafe and exhibition space, a co-working space for businesses to collaborate and share knowledge, a makers market area, a retail display area, a start-up enterprise space, studios and workshops.

Four other heritage buildings will be refurbished with the possibility of more included.

Reactivating Heritage Buildings project – Millom Town Deal

Connecting Millom and Haverigg will look to develop the train station as a hub and gateway to the area with cycling and walking routes to transformed.

Millom Town Deal secured £20.6 million in November 2022 with an additional £8.7 million in match funding to help the town and its communities to thrive in the future.

Working with Cumberland Council, the external funding will be used to deliver the four projects.
