Cumbrian MP Looks Back At First 100 Days In Parliament

Whitehaven and Workington MP, Josh MacAlister has been looking back on his first 100 days in office.

Since winning the new seat on Thursday, July 4, as the boundaries of Copeland and Allerdale were redrawn to create Whitehaven and Workington the new MP has been busy.

From being sworn in as the first Labour MP for Whitehaven since Jamie Reed and Workington’s since Sue Hayman, Baroness Hayman of Ullock, to establishing his constituency and parliamentary office along with the new job paperwork he has hit the ground running.

Carrying on from his campaign MacAlister has visited over 100 organisation, schools and businesses, along with continuing to document his meals out in the constituency a popular insight into the area.

There have been 1200 pieces of casework dealt with including the eviction notices handed out to the harbour side flats in Whitehaven.

He has also been involved in the Whitehaven Town Centre regeneration schemes and the push to get to the bottom of the orange harbour water that has been the talk of many theories, and marched at the front of Whitehaven Pride.

In Workington MacAlister has been pushing for the expansion of the Port of Workington.

In parliament Josh made his maiden speech and became in broiled in the ‘jam eaters’ debate that rages within his constituency, is it Whitehaven or Workington he is going to leave that one alone.

He has also asked 20 questions to the house, held meetings with representatives to push the forward the new nuclear agenda and has worked with other Cumbrian MPs and health leaders.

Josh also sits on the cross party committee for the creation of the Great British Energy Bill.

This is all on top of the numerous votes already called in parliament.
