St Mary’s Hospice is set to celebrate Hospice Care Week with an event at Barrow Park Leisure Centre.
The Compassionate Communities team is hosting the Active Minds, Healthy Hearts: A Dementia Care Event on Thursday, October 10, from 1pm till 4pm.
This event will showcase the incredible services and support available for people living with dementia.
Sophie Ayeche, Admiral Nurse Dementia Specialist at St. Mary’s Hospice said: “We are excited to host this event as part of Hospice Care Week, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of holistic care and social connection for individuals with dementia.
“Our goal is to demonstrate how sports, movement, and mindfulness can significantly improve quality of life and empower those living with dementia and their families.”
The ‘Active Minds, Healthy Hearts’ event will feature a variety of activities and demonstrations designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being for those living with dementia.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions, including gentle exercise classes, mindfulness workshops, and engaging sports activities tailored to all ability levels.

There will also be support and information stalls to connect people with local organisations and experts offering valuable resources and support for dementia care.
The Active Minds, Healthy Hearts: A Dementia Care Event is open to all of the community, including caregivers, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in learning more about dementia care.
The event takes place at Barrow Park Leisure Centre on Thursday, October 10, with free admission and refreshments will be provided.
