The West Cumbrian community has jumped into action after Whitehaven Rugby League Captain James Newton broke his neck.
During the 23-20 win over Halifax Panthers on Sunday, September 29, Newton was walked off the pitch after a tackle.
He was later transferred to hospital where tests revealed he has fractured vertebrae.

James Newton has provided an after surgery saying: “Update guys basically shattered my neck .. Bi lateral C2 fracture to the vertebrae and undergone surgery for the application of halo ring and vest.
“I will have the halo on for around 8 weeks … . I am doing well … long road to recovery now .. thanks for all of your support.”
With the Whitehaven Captain being employed locally as well Xtreme Fitness have launched a Go Fund Me page to raise money to support the player during his recovery.
