Passer-by Raises Alarm As Walker Falls After Watching Sunset In West Cumbria

Whitehaven Coastguard were involved in a second call out after a passer-by raised the alarm as a walker had fallen.

The second call out on Saturday, September 21, came when a lone walker had been out observing the sunset in the coastal area of Siddick.

Then whilst trying to get down to the beach, they took a fall on some rock-armour and sustained injuries.

They found they had no mobile phone signal to raise the alarm for assistance and were unable to move themselves due to their injuries.

Having laid there for some time, thankfully a passerby came across the casualty and was able to raise the alarm.

Following a 999 call, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Belfast Coastguard alerted Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team, along with colleagues from Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team and North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust were tasked to the scene.

The casualty was assessed and packaged into rescue stretchers, before carefully being extracted across the rock armour and carried to the ambulance for onward transportation to hospital.
