The Egremont Crab Fair and World Gurning Championships are officially underway as the 2024 queen has been selected.

On Friday, September 13, the annual Crab Fair Queen disco took places as dozens of children from West Cumbria gathered to take part in the traditional event.

The children who signed up had to dance, take part in games and give their best to be in for a chance to take the crown.

Six finalists were selected but ultimately it was 13-year-old Maisie Turner who was crowned the Queen to represent the fair in its 757th year.

The moment Maisie’s name was called, the teenager got emotional and was cheered on by her friends.

Nine-year-old Layla was crowned the reserve queen – who will take up the role should Maisie need to step down for any reason.

The Egremont Crab Fair and World Gurning Championships – the world’s oldest fair – will officially take place over the weekend of Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21 when the field activities and Gurning competitions will take place.
