Whale Washes Ashore On Cumbrian Beach

Whitehaven Coastguard were called out after a whale washed up on Braystones beach.

The call came in on Monday, August 26, evening, that a deceased whale had washed ashore at Braystones.

The decomposed mammal is around 3.5 meters in length and is believe it to be a juvenile minke or fin whale, pending confirmation.

As part of the duties the Coastguard carries out the necessary record form was completed with measurements and details by the team and passed back to our Coordination Centre Belfast Coastguard, as well as to the Natural History Museum Strandings team as part of the UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme.
