Workington could clinch the Mixed Triples and Fours League titles if results go their way with Whitehaven A a point ahead in the Mixed Triples.
The National Finals started with the Women’s Four, Women’s Triples, Men’s Singles and Men’s Pairs all featuring Cumbrian players.
West Cumbria Mixed Triples League
The top three are all in action on Tuesday, August 13, as Whitehaven A went clear with a 9-0 win over Seaton, Workington dropped a point as they beat Seascale 8-1 and Wigton sit third after a 7-2 win against Harris Park B.
Fourth placed Croft took a 9-0 win against Vulcan Park as Maryport beat Cleator Moor 5-4 and Egremont’s game with Whitehaven B was postponed.
Heading into the penultimate round on Tuesday, August 20, Wigton will be hoping Whitehaven A drop points at Maryport and Workington do the same at Whitehaven B.
In the battle for fourth Croft head to Seascale needing to avoid defeat to seal the place with Harris Park A needing a good win at Vulcan Park.
Cleator Moor head to Harris Park B needing to match or better Whitehaven B and hope Egremont can take some points off Seaton.

West Cumbria Fours League
The top two met on Friday, August 16, with Fitz Park losing 7-0 to Workington A who can still be mathematically catch by Whitehaven A who picked up a 5-2 win over Workington B.
In their last game of the season Maryport beat Vulcan Park 5-2 as Cleator Moor won 5-2 against Seaton leaving the pair in fourth and fifth.
In the final game of the season for most clubs, Workington A and Whitehaven A have to reschedule their match, there is still a little to play for on Friday, August 23.
At the bottom of the table Whitehaven B need to take maximum points of Whitehaven A and hope Fitz Park take all the points at Seaton to not finish bottom of the league.
Vulcan Park need a 7-0 win over Cleator Moor and hope Workington B lose by the same score to Workington A to stand a chance of finishing sixth.

All eyes are on the National Finals at Royal Leamington Spa as the eighteen days of national competitions began on Thursday, August 15.
The Women’s Fours opened the festival of bowls with Workington’s Rachel Forster, Carole Bannister, Tina Smitham and Victoria Cook beating Northumberland 22-9 and a winning close game with Berkshire 25-24 to make it to the second round.
The quartet lost their second round game 14-15 to eventual winners Somerset on Friday.

Aspatria’s Mark Irwin made it to the semifinal of the Men’s Singles after beating Hampshire’s Chris Cieciura 21-14, Isle of Wight’s Martin Butchers 21-16 and Devon’s Jamie Chestney 21-13 on Friday.
Mark then made it past Durham’s Andrew Kirtland 21-9 before losing 21-16 to Kent’s Harry Goodwin on Saturday.
Also on Saturday Courtfield’s Jo Dawson, Anne Coulthard and Gill Dawes started in the Women’s Triples but lost 18 – 26 to Worcestershire.
In the Men’s Pairs Workington’s Steven Cook and Matthew Hodgson lost 16 – 18 Nottinghamshire on Sunday.
