West Cumbria Bowls Leagues: Triples League Leading Group Tightens As Fours League Heads Into Penultimate Round

Catch up games have a big impact on Mixed Triples League as Fours League heads into final two rounds and Cumbria win in Northern Counties competition.

The Women’s Champion of Champions was crowned and the Under 18 singles title decided in Whitehaven.

West Cumbria Mixed Triples League

Four games were played while the league took a break with two games having a big impact on the destination of the league title.

Workington went joint top with Whitehaven A after beating them 9-0 as Wigton missed out on going two points clear with a 4-5 win at Vulcan Park.

Seascale won 5-4 against Whitehaven B to move up to ninth and Seaton won 6-3 against Vulcan Park to go seventh as the visitors moved off the bottom.

The top three are all in action on Tuesday, August 13, as Whitehaven A host Seaton, Workington welcome Seascale and Wigton face Harris Park B.

Croft in fourth welcome Vulcan Park as Maryport play Cleator Moor and Egremont take on Whitehaven B.

West Cumbria Fours League

The title took another twist on Friday, August 9, as Workington A came away from Seaton with a 0-7 win as Fitz Park moved into second with a 0-7 of their own at Vulcan Park.

In the battle for fourth it is advantage Cleator Moor after a 5-2 win over rivals Maryport while Workington B took a 7-0 win over Whitehaven B.

The top two meet on Friday, August 16, with Fitz Park needing to take as many points from Workington A while Whitehaven A host Workington B.

Maryport host Vulcan Park in their last game of the season as Cleator Moor welcome Seaton knowing all they have to do is match Maryport’s result to seal fourth.

County News

After crowning the Cumbrian champions in multiple disciplines the county faced its first challenge in the Northern Counties competition against hosts Durham, Northumberland, Yorkshire and Lancashire.

After two days of competition the Cumbrian squad came home with the Fours title beating Northumberland 20-16 and the Under 25s Round Robin Fours.

Whitehaven Bowling club hosted the Under 18 singles with Wigton’s Bailey Potts coming out on top after three rounds with Taylor Johnston in second, Jenson Scott took third and Tyler Campbell finished fourth.

Women’s Champion of Champions was crowned at Appleby with Whitehaven’s Linda Rose beating Myra Price in the final after the pair beat Workington’s Victoria Cook and Seascale’s Maureen Eccles.
